I Should Have Read That Book Tag

Hi all, and happy Sunday!

Admittedly, my TBR is a chaotic and disorganized mess. But, boy oh boy, do I love that mess.

I don’t think I’ve ever come across anyone in the reader community that could honestly say, “you know what? I think that my TBR is manageable.” In retrospect though, this is kind of a fantastic problem to have. Sure, books piling on top of books prevents you from ever getting your TBR down to 0 (has anyone ever even accomplished this feat?!), but when you boil it down, our unmanageable TBRs that we’re drowning in is just proof that great books are being published almost on the daily? Like I said, kind of a fantastic problem to have.

BUT, it does make it nearly impossible to read every book that I’ve ever shelved. And I’ve fallen victim to letting books fly under my radar for years before I completely forget that I ever wanted to read them in the first place.

And, thanks to the wonderful Margaret over at Weird Zeal, I now get to put myself on blast and showcase all of the books I haven’t read through the “I Should Have Read That Book Tag.”

If you haven’t checked out Margaret’s blog, please do yourself a favor and take the time to read every single one of her incredible posts. She’s also a wonderful human being.

For even more public shaming, I’m also going to include the dates in which I officially added each of these titles to my TBR. Yay!

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

If I got a penny every single time I’ve been told to read Radio Silence by Alice Oseman, I could probably afford to build a personal library stocked only with copies of Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. From the blogger that tagged me in this post (hi, Margaret) to friends I run to the bookstore with, I’m almost always being told to read this book. And I know that for a fact, just based on the synopsis and its super high praise, I will fall in love with this one when I finally get around to reading it. My only question is: what’s taking me so long?!

A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t read it

It has been four years since I added A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness to my TBR, and I haven’t touched it yet. And who knows why?! The book sounds incredible, and I want to read it so badly. I genuinely don’t have any answers!!

*added to my TBR January 2016

A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten around to finishing

When I got Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake at BookCon a few years back, I couldn’t have been more excited. I had been eyeing the book at Target for what feel like centuries, and I finally had the chance to read it. The first book of the series started off really well for me, but the ending didn’t really strike a cord. But the thing is, I got pretty invested and want to know what happens. I feel like I can’t not know. I also already own One Dark Throne, so what’s standing in my way?!

A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but have never actually read

I’ve been entranced by the plot of The Handmaid’s Tale ever since I first heard of it. Then, when the television adaption came out, it seemed as if just about everyone loved the story. Really, The Handmaid’s Tale sounds so horribly unsettling that I can’t not read it. Not to mention, I’ve heard that it is terrifyingly parallel to some aspects of our world??

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

With all of the excitement surrounding these books because of the new additions, I feel like the only human being that has yet to read Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi? Everyone on the internet seems to always be talking about these characters, and I really just have no idea of who these people even are.

A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but just haven’t picked up yet

Weirdly enough, I have the most vivid memory of watching The Perks of Being a Wallflower for the first time. I instantly fell in love with that movie and the story it told, but—you guessed it—I still haven’t read it!

A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

Okay, maybe because the cover is just so stunning and Instagram-able, but when it first came out, it was close to impossible to not see Wilder Girls by Rory Power everywhere. Also, the story seems so up my alley??

*added to my TBR July 2019

I really need to start sticking to my TBR. I mean, come on, some of these books were added four or five years ago?!

If you need me, I’ll be trying to convince myself all over again that an ever-growing TBR is a fantastic problem to have.

I tag:

Also, I apologize if you’ve done this tag before; just go ahead and ignore me!

So, what do you think? Have you read any of the books I’ve been neglecting on? What books have been on your TBR for eons? Do you usually stick to your TBR or do you pick up whatever book you’re in the mood for? Let’s chat!

  1. This is such a fun tag, and omg, I need to be shamed for how many books that have been postponing for such a long time on reading. Everyone seems to be loving Wilder Girls, and I’ve been tempted to pick it up myself. And same for Radio Silence – and basically any books by that author. I definitely need to get on her books. Wonderful post, and thanks so much for the tag!! 🙂

  2. Have I mentioned before that you should read Radio Silence? Because you should read Radio Silence. 😉 (You added it to your TBR May 2018…I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that that’s the month we met… who’s to say 🤷‍♀️)

I’m so glad you did this tag and as usual I loved reading all your answers for these 😄 I’m in the same boat as you about The Handmaid’s Tale – it’s also been on my TBR forever and I REALLY think I should read it…but alas have not yet gotten around to it. I only read The Perks of Being a Wallflower last year, despite loving the movie when it came out, and it’s definitely worth it!! Oh, and you HAVE to read A Monster Calls. One of my faves!!

    Happy reading! 💕

    1. Wait, you’ve read Radio Silence before?!?! I don’t think you’ve mentioned it!! 😉 And right? I thought the exact same thing. That’s probably exactly how it ended up on my TBR!

It was such a fun tag, so thank you for tagging me! And The Handmaid’s Tale is so intriguing and unique, I can’t not read it. I definitely need to get to Perks and A Monster Calls too. So many books, so little time!

      Thanks, Margaret! ❤️

  3. Okay thank you for this tag!!! Also I’m going add my voice into the mix: READ RADIO SILENCE!!! 😀 I read it about four years ago and it’s still one of my fav YA Contemporaries.

  4. Thank you for tagging me! This looks like fun… I don’t think I’ve done this one yet! 😀
You aren’t alone, I haven’t read Shatter Me either so we can both look at each other and shrug as people talk about characters we don’t know 😂
Perk’s is such a beautiful read, it’s quick too. I didn’t realize how fast it would go until I was done and I went ‘it’s over?!’ I hope you get around to it! 🙂

    1. Of course; I hope you have as much fun with this than as I did!

Glad to know I’m not alone. I feel as if everyone is talking about the series almost all the time, and I never have a clue of what’s going on.

I hope I get around to it too! The movie ruined me, so I’m excited for the book to do the same.

      Thanks, Meghan!

      1. Ha! I feel that way about Sarah Maas books too… everyone talks about Thorn of Glass and I’m like whut, no idea what you’re talking about 😛

I’d love to read your thoughts on Perk! I’m sure you’ll love it! 🙂

  5. Haha you are right we all complain about overflowing TBRs but it is a great problem to have, full of books waiting to be loved. Yeah I’m pretty happy to know about so many amazing books. I just need to become a vampire and use my immortality to read all the books. YES?!? sounds like a plan, haha!!

Please do read Radio Silence (technically by telling you I am helping you to build up your library), it is amazing. I’m currently reading another Oseman book and loving it!!
A Monster Calls is another amazing book I loved, but you will need tissues!!
I haven’t read Shatter Me either, (finally a friend). I have heard a lot about it though (good and bad). When I first joined the book community I love the covers with all the eyes though!!
I loved the movie for wallflower too but I have never read this book either, I do need to at one point though!!
I loved reading all your answers and I wish you the best with all your reading!! ❤ (especially of Radio Silence)

    1. Immortality to read every book is such an incredible idea; someone needs to invent this.

Thank you for helping build up my library! ❤️ And yeah, I’ve literally only ever heard good things about it, and I really just want to get my hands on it ASAP now. Which Oseman book are you reading right now?

Ah! Weirdly enough, books that require tissues are always so fun. I love when authors just know how to ruin my soul and well-being 😂

Yay, friend! Yeah, there seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on the whole series. But I totally agree about the covers—they’re stunning!

      Thanks, Sophie! 💜

      1. That would be so helpful for me!! Haha!!

Haha you’re very welcome!! Yay I’m glad you heard good things *whispers* they are all true!! *stops whispering* I hope you do get to read it asap. I was reading I Was Born For This and it was another amazing book!!

Yes I love books which require tissues as well!! The writing is just so moving and beautiful, I have to love the emotional destruction too!!

        Yes definitely!!

  6. Honey, thank you SO SO much for tagging me!! Such an honor! ❤️
Ok, I don’t want to be another person to tell you to read Radio Silence, but I’ll be lol, it’s one of my favorite books of all time and I think you will love it, so I can’t wait for you to read it, Let me know! 😍
I’ve also read Shatter Me, A Monster Calls & Wilder Girls and I loved them all, so I really recommend them, although if you’re going to read A Monster Call I recommend that you have tissues by your side, I cried my life out with that book, but it’s so worth it & beautiful!
Thanks again for the tag darling, I promise I will do it soon, you’re amazing and I hope you have a beautiful day! 🥰

    1. Of course, Sofii! I’m so excited to see all of your answers!

I NEED to get Radio Silence in my hands now!!! Literally, I have not see anyone talk badly about it. I will definitely keep you updated!

And that’s so good to know that you loved all of those books—that makes me even more excited to get to them! And oh my, I’m so excited to by ruined by A Monster Calls.

Have a great day, Sofii! You’re always so kind; thank you! ❤️

  7. Thanks so much for tagging us! As per usual, we’re super behind on tags, but hopefully we’ll get around to this one soon! I can’t wait to call myself out over how badly I neglect my TBR!

I’m going to add myself to the long list of people who thinks you should read Radio Silence! Honestly, all the Alice Oseman books I’ve read have been fantastic. I recommend them all.

I also really enjoyed Shatter Me when I read it! I haven’t read the additional books that came out after the first 3, but I thought the original trilogy was fantastic and only got better with each book.

And I actually think I’m one of the only people who disliked Perks of Being a Wallflower! Because of that I’ve never seen the movie, even though I’ve heard great things.

    1. Of course! And absolutely no worries over here. Seeing as I’m replying to your comment precisely a million years late, I totally understand getting behind on blogging duties.

I really just need Radio Silence in my hands right now, is what I’m learning LOL! SO great to hear that everyone loves it though!

That’s actually really interesting. I obviously haven’t read the series yet, but I do find that the original stories tend to stand taller than newer installments.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

  8. Ahh I love your answers for this tag so much! I loved Radio Silence and hope you’ll be able to read it soon, it’s such a fantastic read ❤ I've seen Wilder Girls around a whole lot and, if I'm so in love with that cover, I don't think it's for me at all ahha. I hope you'll love it though 😀

  9. Oh yay I’ve read one of these :L I’m so behind with books right now that I get excited whenever I can say that. (Wilder Girls in case you’re wondering and it was a pretty good read. Definitely gory and disturbing but it was addictive to get into. Although I did prefer the start to the end annoyingly) I haven’t read the Shatter Me series yet either if it makes you feel any better. Or anything by Alice Oseman which I feel so bad about. This year I definitely want to get several of their books read.

    1. I’m also starting to get super behind on books, and that’s never fun, so I totally understand. And I am actually glad to hear that you enjoyed Wilder Girls, so thank you for letting me know about that! And hey, there’s plenty of time to read the books we’ve left unread; at least that’s what I tell myself!
